Default Dashboard lights pulsing after a bump...

hi, im new to the forum so bare with me iv never done anything like this before....
On friday night at 1.30am a joyrider smashed into the back of my 2003 Vectra 2.0 DTi whilst parked outside of my house. the pug 306 he was on was totally written off and my vectra looked worse for ware when the pug was fused into the back of it! when the police tow truck pulled them apart and i had a propper look at the car it i discovered that unbeleivably there was no damage to my car other than extensive rear bumper damage as the crash bar had taken the full impact. it was then that i noticed the full instrument panel lights were pulsing on and off every 2 seconds or so and they have not stopped doing it since. i turned the ignition on and there were no warning lights on and the car started straight away without any problems and its also been into an accident repair specialst centre and was fully checked out and they told me it was completely safe to drive and there was no other damage other than the rear bumper and it really didnt make sense to have the work done on my insurance so i decided to bring it home and have the bumper replaced myself rather than losing my full no claims (as the other driver has not been found and the car was uninsured and untaxed) and paying the £250 excess for a rear bumper i can get from a breakers for around £70!. i mentoned the dash lights and they didnt know why they were doing it but said there was no faults with the car so not to worry about it. i was just wondering if this is normal for the lights to pulse like this? to be honest iv only had the car a few months and i never really noticed whether it was doing this before the shunt or not, i dont think it was... any advice here is greatly appreciated! thanks.

i would imagine that the multiplexed wiring had taken a severe knock and suspect that there is wiring chaffing together somewhere at the rear of the vehicle causing a feedback to the systems interface .....
my advice disconnect the battery and get the vehicle repaired properly
before it becomes a "thermal incident" and your left with a pile of smoking ash outside your house

thanks for the replies, all lights and wiring were checked by the accident repair specialists, they would'nt have allowed me to take the car if it was unsafe as they would have been responsible for letting me drive and unsafe vehicle and they are the North Easts largest accident repair centre dealing with 99% of all insurance work so its not like they're cowboys. it was in thier posession for 2 days being checked, they even had the ECU read for faults and it was showing none. rear lights are working, fine, there was nothing hit apart from the drivers corner of the rear bumper so it missed all electrical wiring etc. the lights dont flash when i turn on my ignition, its doing what i can only best describe an immobilisor/alarm light would do, as soon as i lock the doors off the fob they flash fast a few times then slow down to a steady pulse every couple of seconds. i have not tried disconnecting the battery so i will give that a go later on and see if it changes.
I wish it were as easy as making a claim on my insurance but to be honest iv had nothing but trouble with them. im fully comp and because the other driver had no insurance etc and the registered keeper of the car had suposidly sold the car months before hand and had failed to send off the logbook to change the keepers details im expected to pay £250 excess then lose all my no claims bonus making my premium rise from £305 to £690 next month when im due for renewal and iv just been made redundant so that was somthing i really didnt need, especially through absoltley no fault of my own whatsoever!. As if that wasnt bad enough, i did originally have a claim in but then thier insurance accessor went to the vehicle repair specialist to inspect my car and put a hold on the insurance claim because suposidly my car had a non factory bodykit on it that i hadnt declared! (total rubbish!) the repair specialsit then demanded thier courtesy car back and told me to remove my car until this was sorted so after 5 phonecalls backwards and forwards to my insurance company explaining that the sideskirts and bumper trims on my vectra were factory fitted and had simply been colourcoded instead of the normal black colour i decided it wasnt worth the hassle having already being advised by the repair centre the day previously that it probably wasnt worth the claim anyway and would be cheaper to pay for it on my own and brought the car home. i then rang the insurance compan back again to cancel the claim and tell them i would definately be moving firms next month and couldnt beleive the way id been treated and they told me if i stayed with them they would go ahead and do the work after i just been to collect me car and drop the courtesy car off an hour earlier, the absolute cheek of it!! so i flatley refused and will be having the bumper replaced myself and also definately changing insurance companies! i would have expected this kind of think from a non reputable firm but im with Halifax insurance for god sake!

oh i forgot to mention, it wasnt only the fact i was 'meant' to have a bodykit on the car that slowed the claim, as the car has an SRi and irmscher badge on it (there when i bought it never took much notice to be honest) they were trying to tell me that the car had been rebadged so had therfore been 'modified'. i couldnt beleive it! have you ever heard something so stupid as a badge being put down as a 'modification' and holding up and insurance claim!!!

well to be honest any thing thats added to the car is a modifcation in there eyes, daft i know but a badge change is a bit extreme to say the least!! but in there eyes its supposedly making the car more desirable to the theives

my mother in law has worked for a well known insurance compay for 12 years and she said that in normal circumstances 'any modifications' is any add on body parts such as alloy wheels, bodykits and spoilers that alter the look of the car and add value but mainly and more importantly engine parts or anything that can alter the cars performance... she could'nt beleive it when they were trying to put a hold on the claim because the factory fitted kit had been colour-coded and a £2.99 badge was stuck on and agreed that they were quite simply trying to wriggle out of paying out for the claim using any excuse they could... anyway, thats sorted now as the claims cancelled and today iv managed to get hold of a 2nd hand rear bumper in white for £50 from a local vauxhall breakers and its booked into a local spray painters to get it prepped and painted red for another £70 so its costing me £120 to get the car sorted rather than the £250 excess then the loss of my no claims bonus so im very happy with that. next problem i face is finding out how to remove the rear bumper from the car as iv never done it before so il start another thread for that one and leave this one for the instrument cluster lights. if i get no luck il take it to vauxhall and ask thier advice when iv replaced the bumper early next week.
