    Default My Passat Test drive

I am looking for a cheapish car to replace my 328ci as I just don't like it.

So today I went down to view and test drive THIS.
I got there and was greated by a massive car lot with 4 people just standing around in the sun near one of the cars. I think they worked there but none of them spoke so not exactly a welcoming place! I had a look around the car, it was in a bit of a mess considering its milage of 60k. Loads of swirls, one big scratch, dirty hand prints and a few bird poo marks. He did say he would sort the scratch out.
Inside the passenger head lining around the sun visor was covered in what looked like make up marks, foundation etc probably from a messy female passenger. One of the dash vents is broken and there is a cut in the dash near this vent, god knows how this got there! The car has an oil leak from the back of the engine somewhere as its all over the bottom of the floor pan.

Also inside it should have a cd changer in the boot that is missing, although the sales man was surprised when I asked him where it was and showed him the hole in the boot! Firstly he said he would get one but called VW who said that will be £600 please Then it was a £250 after market jobbie!

    The test drive

It drove really well, much more comfortable than my 328ci. The brakes seemed ok but not a patch on my siggy with the 314's. The V6 motor had plenty of low down grunt but past 3500 rpm not a lot happened. My BMW takes off all the way to nearly 7k but this didn't, maybe because its 4wd?

Did I buy it? No. Why? well he only offered me £2750, mine is worth at least 3k plus the trade in on the Passat is less than my BMW and didn't want to haggle, that seemed his final offer. They didn't ask what extras its got or mot etc. The car may require a clutch as it bites really close to the top of the pedal travel. He did say it would get a service and a cam belt. The tyres were good too. When he offered me the px I said it wasn't enough and gave him the keys back. TBH I was surprised that he didn't try to stop me or something as he knew I had driven 65 miles to come and see it, maybe he thought I would go back. Never mind! I would have liked it but there is better out there, for the same or less money too. I would have been worrying about the cost on a clutch on that and it would have needed a lot of work to get it looking good.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    i know that feeling-

can remember when i went to buy the siggy - dealer posted lots of images on autotrader - one looked like a massive scratch on he front - dealer said the car was mint with 35k on the clock and the scratch as a reflected white line from the road
drove 140 miles to find the biggest pile of poo i had ever encountered

the roof lining was eaten - literally!! by a dog

rear seats were wet and had mold on em - front light broken - rear light pulled out in my hand and the white line from the road was the biggest scratch i had ever seen abs warning light on non starter and 3 flat tyres -he asked me if i wanted a test drive......

i threw such a hissy fit the dealer gave me £50 to leave (to cover my fuel costs) as i made such a scene he was loosing potential other sales - i then drove another 110 miles and bought my second choice which as it turned out is now my prode and joy

0-Large smile ......every time it's driven

I used to work for VW - and I have to admit that the 2.8 V6 Passat is a lovely drive. Smooth, quiet and pretty responsive. If its got an oil leak and the clutch is dodgy @ 60k miles then I'd run a mile. Probably spent its life being chased by the local cops.

Loads of decent ones out there from Y / 51 plate onwards for little money....
