Smile Got meself a new toy.....

Well, it's actually a tool but a Big Boy's Toy too!

Decided it was time to upgrade my current DSLR (5D MK I) and the 5D Mk II had always been the logical choice when it first came out. Went to a photographic dealer yesterday to look at one properly for the first time and really liked it - as I expected. Nice hike in Mp to 21.1 from my current 12.8. Full size processed files have increased from 36Mb to 60Mb! , so some larger and faster memory cards were also added to the shopping list! lol Glad I got the bigger TeraStation earlier in the year!

Loads of extra features compared to the Mk I - a lot of them really nice useful ones as opposed to faffy ones. One of the big things being touted about it is that it shoots 1080p video, the only DSLR to do that. Whilst I didn't buy it for that, and will rarely use it I'd imagine, still keen to see what it's like. With the full-frame 35mm chip the feel of the video is reported to be more like film compared to the much, much smaller sensors you get on HD camcorders.

Anyway, still getting my head round all the features and even had to unwrap the manual to have a look through at some stuff! lol

Can't wait to use it on my first shoot and now I have the comfort of now having the MK I as a spare body in my camera bag if ever this one decides to play up.

Thats an awsome bit of kit there D, Looking forward to seeing the pics you take with it. Also would like to see how good the video is on it if you find something you can post up on youtube maybe. Bet your itching to give it a try eh?

What do you do with your old cameras, do you p/ex them?

Edit - just did a price check on the camera, ****** expensive but if your good aat photography then to someone as good as you its gonna be worth it. Wont say what the price is but its a 4 figure number guys! Best of health to enjoy it D.

Problem is though the quality would drop as it'll be shrunk and compressed loads.

Nah, I'm keeping the 5D MKI to have it as a spare body - just in case.

Was tempting to sell it as used 5D MkIs are in high demand and can easily fetch £700+ for a good condition one (which this is as I always look after my kit). With the MkII coming out, and the price tag of that, people then thought they could get a MKI for a bargain price but in fact the prices of them used went up! lol

Tempting as it is to sell, I'd rather have it as a spare body.

Yep, it's a fair few pennies. The price is no secret as it's on websites all over the place. Comes in at a bit under £2k for the body alone. Didn't need the package with the lens as I got the same lens with the first one.

Yeah, I saw they'd just announced that and was looking at the spec. Some nice features but not full-frame sensor so ruled it out for me.

Not entirely sure where Canon are pitching that model. With it's name it sounds like it's part of the 1D/5D family in terms of it's aimed market, but it's an APS- C size sensor so doesn't fit into that family.

It's price is only a little bit less than trhe 5D MkII so I'm not sure if they're pitching it at pros?

That's a nice bit of kit -the full frame sensor gives fantastic results, especially in low light conditions. A mate of mine bought the Mk 3 as soon as he could get his paws on one.
I keep telling myself that the 400D does everything I need -and it does -but the "new toy" appeal of a 50D is still hard to resist!
