    Default Power Steering

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum but have been using the search facility to help with a few problems on my Vectra C.

Last week, my car went in for new rear discs and pads and a new sensor that was causing the car to idle shockingly and stall etc. All sorted on that side of things now.

Intermitentely for the last couple of months the Mrs has told me that the steering warning light has flashed up and occasionally the steering has felt heavy. I only tend to drive it at the weekend so hadn't really noticed myself.

Since I got the car back, the Steering warning light has been on. When I first start the car up, I can hear only what I can describe as a "glug glug glug" noise whilst the pump kicks in and the steering has no power to it. Then when the glug noise stops, the steering is fine.

The obvious thing to me would be to suggest that the pump is on it's way out but I wanted to try and gauge any other opinions first.

Now I don't mind getting my hands dirty but to be honest I'm a pen pusher so am pretty useless. I had a look at the pump to check the fluid level but it's so tightly hidden away I had no chance. Can anyone give me any thoughts or an easier way of looking at the pump / fluid level.

Vectra is a 1.8LS by the way.

    Cheers
    Mark

did you take the inside drivers wheel arch plastics out...from there you can check and top up if low. it shouldn't go low by all acounts but sometimes it might. also the best way to fill is to run a pipe down from the bonnet but dont forget there is a plug under the cap that screws off. I did mine and thought i had filled it as it spilled over but didn't realise about the plug. HTH
