the alarm is set as soon as you lock the doors bud
Doors lock on first press
Then dead-lock and initiate alarm on the second press
Unless you have reprogrammed the key to fully lock etc on single key press.
I believe this is right, but welcome any corrections...I always double press anyway, unless I am to-ing and fro-ing from the car.
Alarm is on with first press. You should see the flashing LED on the dash when it's armed.
Reason for it arming on first press is the auto locking feature if you accidentally unlock the door while walking away from the car and don't re-enter the car within 30 seconds. The auto locking will lock the car for you and set the alarm (the deadlocks won't be set though)
The car should actually lock itself, with the key out of the ignition, even if you forget to do so
Try it, just be careful the car doesn't lock one of your keys inside!
However, I find it annoying sometimes as it usually happens when I am in the middle of loading the boot up with luggage!
If theres a way of setting that up it would be good, I've forgotten to lock my car before and in the morning was still unlocked so fairly certain it doesn't do that on my model anyway.
The car will re-lock itself (but not deadlock) if you unlock it but then don't open anything. I think it assumes you didn't mean to unlock it in the first place - knocked the button on the key or something.
If you unlock only the boot, then open it then close it, it will lock itself after some time.
The alarm comes on with the first press of the lock key - you will see the alarm light come on for 10 seconds then start flashing. This means that there is no way you can lock your car but not have the alarm on -annoying when you are on a ferry.
My car is a 2003/52 and it seems that some of these things changed over time, so the only way to see what works on your car is to try it and see.
