    Default Signum exhaust back boxes

    Hi,
Need some advice please. I have my engine mangement light comes up saying about exhaust emissions. Went to the garage and they reset. No problem. Few weeks later comes back on. I have checked my exhaust, what I think is the twin back boxes, they look rather rusty and some tiny holes. Can i get these replaced easy, not worried about looks and performance just need them sorted. Oh I have a Signum 2.0 t elite 04 plate. I live in Plymouth so if anyone knows any where good that would be great.
    Thanks for your help.

did the garage give you the fault codes they recovered - exhaust emissions are generally measured upstream and downstream

so one sensor is mounted in the manifold and one is mounted in the exhuast pipe lower down - i suspect one of the sensors has or is failing

i doubt that the rear box would affect the readings - unless they had dropped off
the exhausts are double skinned so there is an outer skin (one of mine was bad so i pulled it off ) and then an inner skin as well

get it diagnosed PROPERLY before you throw money at it for the wrong reasons

    Default Signum Back boxes

    Daz,
Thanks for that mate. I did not know they are double skinned. The light has just gone off as I dropped the kids to school. I suspect you are correct in saying its the sensors. Once I get it checked I will post what the problem was.
    Once again thanks.

I had exactly the same problem with my 53 2.0T Elite about 4 months ago. The light came on intermittently at first then stayed on eventually. There were no other symptoms, but fearing big problems I took it to the stealers. They had the car a few days and eventually diagnosed an exhaust gas temperature sensor being faulty, which they replaced. Cost of part was buttons, but the overall job ran into hundreds as they struggled to diagnose it, strangely.

Can also confirm what Dez says. I'm still on the original exhaust after 59K and both back boxes look shot, but one of the skins peeled away revealing another nice clean one underneath, nothing's blowing so I'm hoping for a few more miles before the inevitable costly replacement.

is it the engine management or is it the exhaust gas emissions light ?? (a squashed orange helicopter) my 2.0t siggy does this occasionally and the fault code reads po133 (i think) poss lambda sensor defect, after a journey in the car the light goes off only to reappear weeks/months later

turn the engine off press the brake and accel together and turn the car on so the ignition lights are on, the light should flash a combination, mine flashes 10 times

    hope this helps

Guys thanks for all your help and advice, the light is like a squarish sort of shape. The wife has just broken down and had the AA man out. AA man could not find any codes and reset the system. Wife is now mobile again. I did have a little problem this morning, it did not start as easliy as normal. Any ideas please.
    Thanks

    george,

im still convienced its a sensor as per my initial post - needs the fault codes reading - the aa / rac have hand held scanners that will not always show the faults and sometimes even induces false one

if its a minor/soft fault it want alway be found by a handheld scanner
but an main dealer would find the fault - may be worth biting the bullet and having it diagnosed - and getting an estimate for the repair (which would include the part numbers ) then buying the parts and getting a "smaller" garage to fit them for you if you dont feel happy doing it yourself

if it is an oxygen sensor then be careful on attempting to remove
you could end up having to buy a new exhaust manifold

    regards

    Dez

    Thanks Dez,
Guys the light is a squashed orange helicopter as per chill_za has mentioned. Chill_za i did as you said. I put the brake and acc on together, turned the keys so only the ignition lights came on. The squashed orange helicopter did not come on but it did come on when I took my foot off the acc. I started the engine and the light stayed out.

Ref you post Chill_za, what was the solution on your car.

    Thanks
    Guys
