towbar nightmare

help .......i just went to hitch up my caravan to my 52 plate ls and it dont fit.....
alko stabiliser ...vaux dealer fitted bar.... and when its on the ball there is only 3mm clearance between the bumper and hitch ...and if you turn the car it fouls the bumper ...took the car straight down to dealler they say its the right one for the model ...there was another veccie in the car park with a towbar fitted and you can fit 3 fingers into the space between the ball and the bumper ...on mine there is only space for 2 fingers the vaux tech people were unable to explain this ... no further forward .has anyone heard of thi problem ...also any pics and info on altrnative towbar would be big help

sounds like ur car may have been rear ended in the past.

if not then ive no idea

hi mate.... thought this myself got assurance from vaux tech that all was original and no signs of any rear damage

Probably whoever fitted the bar didn't have a clue what they where doing.

We have towed with a 04 Vectra Hatch, and a 05 Vectra Estate, both have had Whitter bars fitted, we have the latest alko stabiliser on our caravan and we have had no issues with either car, Apart from the 04 Vectra hatch was a nightmare to tow with (don't worry I only think it was this car which was affected, as vauxhalls replaced the car for us becuase it really was that bad, and they really did not know how to fix it either) The problems where not cause by the tow bar being to close to the car though

I would try and get my money back from the placed who fitted the tow bar, and then get a proper place to re-fit it!

dealer has said they will replace it but they only had the same towbar listed as a fit for my ls.... said they will phone me tomorrow when they have found an alterative
whats the point getting genuine vauxhall parts fitted when the alternitive is better and cheaper...ps got any pics of your towbar /van hooked up so ican see what it should be like..............ta

BTW,

just fitted a witter bar to the gsi so i can take our trailer tent to PVS.. sits level with the black bumper insert and is well clear of the bumper..Which bar have you got, fixed or removable??
