Default 1.7 DI Corsa's & its Engine - What are they like?

    Chaps,

I am looking at purchasing a Corsa 1.7 Di for the misses and as another motor to run about in.

    Anyone experienced these engine's?
    What are they like?
Not like the CDTI's are they?

No seriously, any hints and tips are welcome please as to what to look out for too.

    Thanks.

I'll probably get told that i'm wrong but i think the 1.7Di is the DTi without a turbo. It's not commonrail anyway and it may be a tad sluggish

The 1.7Di is an Isuzu unit with a tiny turbo and no intercooler

But it is reputed to be one of the toughest and most reliable diesels in the GM range.

Oh man, I dont know what to do! The car has done 80'ish k, and for a diesel engine its not high at all, buts its a 2003 model without history, although the owners story is starting to piece together!

Im scouting around for info and looking for reasons not to buy it and my main stumbling block is the SH!!!

    Whats your thoughts folks!!???

lol I bought my vectra with 81k on the clock and no service history. If the car feels right then it probably is.

Is the rest of it clean and looked after, as if it is then servicing of some sort has probably been done.

Buy the car on the "here and now" and not whats its had in the past. That is to say does the engine sound sweet, is the oil good etc.

The DTi is turboed like the Di but it also has an intercooler (the size of a shoe box!). I believe the 1.7D was the one without a turbo as in the early Astra Mk. 3's.

Nowt wrong with any of those engines. Not built for speed and laggy but reliable and long-lasting.

Only a couple of problems i have heard of with this engine are the oil pumps failing and the E.C.M. bolted to back of engine giving problems.

6 years old, 80K miles and no service history
What is it with you and cars with no service history!

This engine, from memory, requires oil changes every 6K miles / 6 months
That's a lot of services to miss in 6 years...
