Default Noobie Here, 1.9 CDTI SRI Query

    Hi all,

I am thinking of purchasing a 2008 SRI 1.9 150bhp CDTI but have been a bit put off by all the negative reviews I have found on the web.

I have test drove the car and love it but I am hearing issues about turbos, dmf, cambelt issues etc.

Can somebody please give me a balanced view

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Thought I would give you my personal experiences.

Dad had a 1.9cdti 150 estate and had no issues in 30k miles, this was used for towing also. Car was a 54 reg owned from 2005 to 2007.

I now currently run a Astra 1.9 cdti 150 (same engine and running gear as Vectra). it is an April 2008 car and has now done almost 59k miles and has not missed a beat, all its had is two services (next one due) and just on third set of front tyres. Everything else including brakes are original!!

These cars are very good, only thing they don't like (in common with most modern common rail diesels) is lots of short trips which can bring on EGR problems.

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Spenccer

I've had mine for almost a year now. (63k-84k miles)

So far it's just been standard maintenance issues (brakes, cambelt change/service and the alternator needed replacing) apart from that it's been a joy to drive

The reason why you hear so many negative reviews is that yes there are known problems with DMF's failing and swirl valves or inlet manifolds going wrong which both cost dearly to put right again. However, it appears to be a hit or miss situation with the 150's. Something else to bare in mind though is that the 150 is the most common engine in the Vectra range, therefore there are going to be more of them than any other to have problems.

Hope this helps, make sure you get the 150 you won't be disappointed

I have had my 150 for over a year now, and its had a new inlet manifold, DMF/clutch kit and EGR valve, oh yeah and my springs had snapped too (admittedly not a 150 only trait).

I love my car though and it runs like an absolute dream (and looks cool too ).

I would buy another 150 no problem, but my only advice would be GET A WARRANTY then enjoy the car.

The other option is a CDTi 120 with a remap... just as quick as a standard 150 and a bit more reliable.

I am on my second 150, first an SRi estate and now an Elite estate auto, I had a new DMF on the first then I had an issue with a miss-fire that we struggled to cure. However pound for pound for value they take some beating so I opted for another, I have the receipt for circa 24k for it and I paid just over 10 (less than 12 months old), so I don't think you can beat them for VFM but I would not own one without a warranty.

Had mine, on a 56 plate 4 mnths 41000 on now 38000 when i got it. Ive had locking nut hassle, and a new alternator fitted 4 weeks ago, The jury is still out. But i do like it alot !
As said above make sure you have a good warranty in place. I have an AA warranty in place and saved it me just short of £500 when alternator packed in.

The only advice I can give is make sure it has had the manifold upgrade, alongside the EGR valve. These two cause problems.

As for DMF's, well its not the best of technology any how and any deisel can have a bad one.

Other than that if they are ok then the car should be fine.
