A thing, did your PC not come with a thing, mine did. I would take it back and complain, dunno how they get off with it, a pc and no thing ??

i have a ethernet card , but where we are moving to they dont have cable .

So we have to go with a BT line , ordered BT broadband with the wireless router thingy , but the phone socket is downstairs and the pc will be upstairs .

Isnt USB a slow way to connect to the Broadband ?

Nope. USB will transmit data much quicker than any BB connection you'll have access to.

But currently like I say I have NTL cable broadband which isnt in a phone line its just a cable box which goes outside into the ground . THe BT one which we are going to have goes into a phone socket ?!

I allways understould that and broadband conection is allways faster going through my ethernet socket than a Usb !?

God im confused ! !

ethernet can run at 10/100mb as per normal, usb 1.0 runs slower compared to usb2.0 but even if your Broadband speed is 1MB and say for example usb1.0 is what 40mb then it will still be 40 times as fast as your internet speed

Personally I find running off a router is alot quicker than a USB modem!

You wouldn't notice any degrade in your speed for browsing. Going with BT means you don't have to deal with the idiots at NTL either.
