2.0 t noisy belt tensioner

Hey all,

Anyone have a rough idea on how much a it is to replace the tensioner and belt, need to get mine done as the dreaded rattle/vibration has started.

Just to help matters think that i need the alternator pulley done too.

Not sure if this is what your referring to as you mention vibration, but it's the common problem known with the 2.0T

The belt is about £11 and the uprated pulley to stop the squeeking is £120 the last time I checked, but from what I remember Duncan got this and the noise came back. If it's just the squeeking a new belt will stop it for a reasonable amount of time, I've just replaced mine as the squeek came back and at £11 you can get 10 belts which will cover 5 years at a very minimum compared to the pulley.

I can't recall at what point I got the squeaking back - it was after either the pulley or tensioner had been replaced and I think they hadn't replaced the belt on one of them. Anyway after a belt was put on it was sorted - been squeak free for ages now.

Yep, that's the tensioner - and the usual culprit for the judder/rattle you mention. For the cost of it, make sure they/you stick on a new belt or they'll just reuse the old one sometimes!

cheers for the info all, complete nuisance this. Pity vauxhall didn't do a recall!

might try and spread the cost, do the tensioner then the pulley at a later date if the new belt doesn't do the trick.

Yes, if the part number given in the ad is correct then that's the one you want.
