Default Xbox 360 media center - pulling my hair out

omg this has been driving me nuts all night!

I have changed my ISP to plusnet from orange. All changed no problems, internet service change very smooth.

Installed plusnet wireless router, wirelessly found it and connect easy-peasy.

Then I thought...I know I'll see about connecting my xbox as a media center extender, as I never did it whilst I was with orange, and that's where my problems started...

Laptop has Vista Premium connected to router wirelessly, xbox 360 has the latest updates and is connected to the router by ethernet cable. So should work, right?

Media center says can't find the xbox (although listed on the network map) and suggest checking 8 digit key, UPnP etc. Done that.
Xbox says ensure ports are open, pc on same network (says PC not listed if I check pc connection) sharing enabled. Done that

I have even tried turning windows firewall off and the router firewall off!

Do you guys have any ideas?

you need to allow media sharing within Windows media player mate

I am guessing your using WMP 11, so if you click on your Library tab and the little down arrow and select media sharing it should be pretty self explanatory from there.

Done that, have a nice little picture of an xbox 360 with the tick. Just removed it and rejoined it, but that hasn't changed it unfortunately.

I had exactly the same problems with mine, I spent days trying to get it to work but couldnt so I use TVersity instead and works like a dream. http://tversity.com/ I can actually watch BBC's iPlayer through the xbox with that aswell.

    1) customize? How do I see which folders are being shared?

    2) AVG free - as far as I know, if I want to turn off the antivirus I need to uninstall it then reinstall it afterwards?

    3) looking at tversity as an alternative - cheers guys

used to use media player, then switched to tversity, but now simply put the content I want to watch on a USB stick & play it direct (saves a cable running from the pc to xbox, and saves the PC from being on!)
