    Default Insurance cost ??

Well plucked up the courage to ring the insurance today and get the quote for the new motor,

Can`t beleive it, doesn`t make sense to me, VXR astra, brand new, cheaper to insure than an 03 SRi with a few mods !!!

And the excess is back down from 500 to 220 ....

I'd be interested to know how insurers get to their figures....I was of the understanding part of it was 'desirability'....if I was a car thief, an astra would be more desirable to me than an old mans vectra....

Sounds to me like the big wigs at Vauxhall have had one of their special meetings with Insurance Companies.

Once the scum figure out how to steal the VXR the insurance premiums will increase, just like the Vectras has.

insurance premiums are a lucky dip...i thought that they base it on the number of claims that they have had in your particular area.

so it all depends on the people who live in your area are insured by and whether they claim.

so just because company A has had many claims in your area and charges you 's doesn't company B will have had as many claims and hence will only charge you 's.

I kinda agree with Harry. Insurance companies look at statistics too, when calculating premiums as well as initial stab at a value for a new model. As yet, im betting there hasnt been many claims on astra VXRs, yet there are thousands of vectra Sri claims, which statistically puts the vectra as a more risky car than the VXR. As alex says, the more VXRs get sold and used, and consequently more claims in, then the premiums will rise

But I agree, every new car ive had has been cheaper to insure than the one im trading up from. Its madness.

It's probably cos the VXR is Vx modded and probably better secured than a home mod with a 3 yr old alarm etc, it is mad though, my excess dropped from 500 to 250 on this yrs quote.
