Low coolant warning light -3.2 GSI

Hi all,

Just got car back from dealers after timing belt change/water pump replacement and full service.

Now, when i start engine and pull away the coolant warning level light comes on for a couple of seconds then goes off. seems to mainly happen when i pull away sharply. Phoned the dealers and they said its probably the switch on the way out and they'll need to connect it up to computer to check. They didn't change the coolant but seems too much of a coincidence that its failed right after service as i've not had the issue before.

Coolant level is midway between min and max. Was thinking it might just need yopped up but level is same as it was before it went into dealers....

Any ideas?

When the belt was done on my GSi, the VX stealer removed the throttle body, including the coolant pipes to it, to get better access to the belt area at the top. Don't know why, but they did.

So in theory, they may have done the same and a small amount of coolant has been lost. You'd have also lost some coolant when the pipes were disconnected from the water pump. There may also be a small air lock but it should bled itself over a short period of time. How does the temp gauge read?

I'd top it up to max level when cold and monitor it over the next week or for 50 or so miles.

Thanks, I'll do it today. I did notice that the cable for the sensor was unclipped from the main harness. Temp gauge seems fine. I'll keep an eye on it. Cheers
