Question Flat Spot/Stutter or hesitation on 2006 1.8 VVTi SRI

    Hi Guys

Does anyone have an idea why when I set of in 1st and get up to about 5-10mph my car seems to stutter or hesitate for a second or two whilst you continue to accelerate? It then jumps to the speed you would have been at if you had kept accelerating making me look like a twXt I mean a ‘new driver’.

Could it be the MAF? I believe this is the ‘Air Flow Sensor’? or would it have anything to do with the plugs?

Your advice would be appreciated, Regards Andy

P.S, I have only had the car a couple of weeks, it has full service history and I have just had the cam belt done, but it did the same before the belt and it has been to the moon and back with regards to the milage.

try doing the airbox mod, normally sorts it out or at least improves it
its not afault as such, more like a characteristic, lol
my 1.8 used to do the same but was better once the mod was done, and you get used to it

lol, sure you can talk to me
the mod is not changing the MAF or anything else, just removing a part of the intake trumpet inside the airbox

Looks simple enough, thanks for the thread. I will give it a go after I order a new filter, might as well change it whilst it’s off. Should I go for a K & N, Piper Cross, Fram or any other ideas?

hi mate, i work for a stealer up in scotland,

your engine is a z18xer, which reqires an sps which un technically speaking is an ecu upgrade to get shot of this problem.

my old man has one and thats what vauxhall technical told me,
carried out this to my dads 3 month agoo, and he has had a big grin on his face since. hes always at me about it.

    1 more power
    2 no flat spot
3 starts alot nicer in the morning
    4 smoother in traffic
    5 5 extra mpg

    no bad mate eh

just change it for a standard filter, i had a K&N on mine and noticed hardly any difference over a standard one, just a little bit more noise

    technically speaking,

all you do is plug your car in to the laptop, read your ecu settings,
they get shipped straight to germany, some little german fella loads 2009 software onto the phoneline,
it goes into your cars ecu via the laptop.

5 mins it takes, should be a part of your annual service if the dealer is their job right...................

some dealers are ........ are........ are................. you know what i mean.

but trust me mate, this is the answer to all your questions

my dads goes like a scalded cat, iv done it to my 2006 astra vxr and mate..... what a difference
