    Default USB TV Tuner

Does anyone use (successfully) a USB tv tuner in their laptop when out and about. I was looking for one for camping and was hoping to use the little aeriel they come with, but have read so many mixed reviews

    Cheers

They work well as long as you have a very good signal, to use the short antenna supplied you really do need a good signal to get anything worth watching, IME most times for decent pictures it will need connecting to a proper arial system. I assume we are talking about a digital type, in which case its possible that signal strengths around the country will improve substantially as regions get switched completely over to digital. Currently with that tiny supplied stick antenna you will be lucky to get a picture unless your near to the transmitter.

You need to have a REALLY good signal to get anything at all. My USB DTV tuner only works at home if I connect it to the main aerial (kinda defeats the object of it!) I've never got it working from the short aerial supplied.

Robbies idea of a portable, amplified aerial should work ok; or how about getting hold of a caravan system - the omnidirectional aerials you see on many caravans (possibly coupled with an amplifier) should provide an easy solution...
