    Default Control Arm

    Hi

I have a knocking in the rear of my car and I just got the rear tires changed, there was unusual wearing on the left tyre. I got the alignment checked and everthing was ok.

From reading this post, it looks like the control arm.
There is 100k on my 2003 vectra gts.

    Just a few questions.
    1. When replacing the control arm is there any other part that is recommended to be replaced.

    2. Can I diy this or should I leave it into the garage. I just started fixing problems on my veccie and enjoy getting my hands dirty.

    3. Are there specific parts for my model vectra or are they generic parts for all vectra Cs'.

    Thanks

    Darren

    1. Not that I'm aware of - not specifically related to to the control arm anyway.

    2. Perfectly doable DIY as per the How 2 thread that you posted in. The main 'issue' is that the inner bolt on the arm can be a swine to get off - that's it really.

    3. Same part for all models.

what numpty above said but make sure you have a selection of extension bars, and wobble/flexible adapters too. Best bet is to go above the axle to get to the inner bolt

    Darren,

The rear upper control arms will cost you about £66 each from Vx or you canhave a look on ebay or LMF (vauxhall parts site) £35 each. They are not vehicle specific it is one size fits all and NOT side specific either L/R.

The only other thing you may consider doing at the same time is the rear anti rollbar bushes (ARB). Only a few pound each from Vx.

    HTH,

    Bri.

Done mine last weekend. Took a little over 3 hours to do both.
Tools neded: Jack and axle stand.
    22mm &18mm ring spanners
    E22 & E18 sockets (half inch drive)
    wobble bar and knuckle joint
    torque wrench (up to 150Nm)
75% of the job takes about 30mins a side, its the inner E18/18mm nut and bolt that take the time, access is a pig.
Vx recommend replacing the nuts and bolts as they are angle torqued
