    Default Budget Tyres

Budget tyres.....are they worth it? Signum (Elite 150 CDTi) is used by the wife for commuting in the week mainly. Perhaps do a few long journeys each year, nothing major (10-12k per year).

Can get budget tyres locally in Nottingham for around £50 each or Goodyears etc for around £98 each.

Rears need replacing in the next month, fronts probably in 6 months time.

What's the deal with budget tyres.....any good, or false economy. Any worth recommending or avoiding?

    Thanks

    Andy

Wouldn't want to go for anything too cheap, as that would be false economy.

Avoid the ones with comedy names: Linglong, Nangkang, Woosung etc.

The Minimum you want to go for is a tyre made by a subsidiary firm of a large manufacturer.

Fate Advance AR-550 are what I'm using at the moment on my 1.8, but would go for something a bit better on your CDTi 150! Fate are a subsidiary firm of Continental

Avoid Avons, as they tend to wear quickly and are a bit noisy.

I don't skimp on tyres - only point of contact with the road, and they control whether you're off it or on it. Your family is the most important thing to you - why risk it if they have to stop in an emergency or make a sudden change in direction to avoid a child etc and el-cheapo tyres just refuse...

yeah stay away from proper cheapys.. especially on the back end.. I bought some the once(emergency) ... and lost the back end many times...plus it felt like the back end shocks were made of jelly lol... i'd go for a mid range one like kumhos or something similar.
