    confused Help needed please! - Ultra Blue paint

    Sorry guys and gals, bit of a noob question here but I have trawled the forums and google for an answer and I'm 90% sure I have found the info I need, but I just want to try and make it 100%.

    The colour code of my vec is metallic ultra blue and according to the plate in the drivers door the code is z21b but the closest I've found is L21b (on www.paints4u.com).

    The colour name is coming up as ultra blue so what I would like to know is does the z/L refer to a different finish, ie metallic/solid/pearlescent etc or is there only one kind of ultra blue?? I was in Halfords yesterday and I found a chip repair kit in Ultra Blue but in pearlescent, not metallic.

    I have a few minor chips/scratches to take care of (from before I owned the car) and I need to paint my new headlight eyebrows. Thanks for your help!

    Hi matin the vx dealers do a two pack kit of paint and lacquer in ultra blue L21b the part no is 93160529 these usually retail for around £9.00 + vat

    Also halfords that have the paint mixing facility can also make up ultra blue L21b this is only listed under the opel directory so be sure to mention this if ordering

    then you'll have the exact match.

    Thanks fellas. So there's definitely no difference between Z21b and L21b?

    Just reading through Bob's post again, and looking at my plate on the B pillar, I'm not sure where he's got the L bit from. (Id just registered the bit he said about getting it from VX and that's what I'd been agreeing with). My paint code is Z21B as well - so not sure what the L bit is about.

    If your door plate says Z21B, then Vx definitely sell that paint code as I've bought it myself.

    As far as i know the Z or L bit doesnt mean anything.When i bought the paint for my re-spray i just asked for 21b and ultra blue turned up! they didnt mention anything on variations but as always you cant guarantee a perfect match with a touch up due to various factors such as previous work/ fading paint etc etc.

    I will find out a definate answer regarding the Z+ L bit tomorrrow at work, i can ask our in house paint mixer/tinter man!

    Right, I've found out a bit of info from the tech docs and nowhere have I seen the L prefix mentioned in reference to Ultra Blue - it's either just 21B or Z21B. The Z part is explaining the system of painting that's been used on the car.....

    Y = applies to single-coat painting

    Z = applies to two-coat painting (as 2 coats of a plain colour; 2 coats metallic and 2 coats pearlescent)

    Z+Z = applies to two-colour painting. The main colour of the car and the secondary colour appear next to each other
