Sorry but that is just up!

Gumtree has been getting a fair bit of stick recently but in all honesty, that could happen from anywhere, only reason it happnens off BumTree is because its free to advertise!

Throw the book at them crooks I say !

Makes all of us genuine one's look bad too!!

forgot to bring john rambo along i suppose.
    shocking story.
not worth messing about with private deals these days - trade in old car & buy from a car supermarket is the best bet.

! There is no right procedure, you make the call or send an email and you go an view! Dont really think you can anticipate anything like this unless you speak to a right on the phone too! Only thing I would say is NEVER go with the full £££'s, unless its a few hundred quid!

I disagree. I have bought from trade before and have been messed around to no end, wouldnt go there again, unless it was a corker of a deal! Privately you can get a right gem sometime's and you get the full story as to the history of the car, well thats the idea anyway!

Well for a start when buying cars dont meet people that you dont know from Adam in random carparks. Meet them at their home address, if their not willing to do that walk away. Meeting in car parks is just asking for trouble imo. More so when sums of money like that are involved.

Dont go carrying £5k in cash would be the next step, either go to the bank once a deal has been done, or take a minimum amount of cash with you to leave as a deposit until your happy with the situation.

Take a note of a land line number instead of just a mobile, and ring it a few times at differing times of the day to make sure its not a pay phone.

Take atleast one friend with you, 2 against 5 stands a far better chance than 1 against 5.

With that sams that go on with the likes of Ebay/Gumtree & Auto Trader these days you should always be on your gaurd.

I have been calling around to buy a car recently. If the person I call is saying yo bruv etc then I am not interested. I might miss a good car but I am still here.
