I've cleaned the engine bay successfully dozens of times on previous cars and always used Gunk and water.

However, the first time I cleaned it on the Vec-C (about 3 months ago), I damaged Ignition Module 1. It cost me about £180 to get fixed, and a lot of trouble. I thought I had covered everything up well, but obviously not well enough. I always used to like a clean engine bay, but now I've come to the conclusion that there are so many electrics under there these days, it's maybe best to just leave it. I'm looking into waterless products, or maybe a steam cleaner.

I have cleaned mine about 6 times since I have had the car because it sits in a dusty yard all week, always used a jet wash and never covered anything and never had a problem, maybe I've been lucky huh

I do mine very 3 months. I use Autoglym engine cleaner and my jetwash when at home, but if I am passing my dealer, they let me use the steam cleaner. Never had an issue.

I'd had no problem before, so I must have been really unlucky the last time I did it.

    Use the Force!!!

Bit hit and miss but always safer to cover up. That goes without saying really?
