    Default Had a bang.

    Hi
Just had an accident in my Vectra.

Was in slow moving traffic. Three girls, one had a long white stick and I assume had impaired vision, went to step off of the kerb. I looked sideways at them to avoid them if necessary. At this precise moment the traffic stopped, I braked hard, but not hard enough, and slammed into the car in front. My fault, clearly down to me.

Looking at the car the damage appears to be, new bonnet, new bumper and possible new radiator. The slam panel is probably pushed in slightly.

My car is a Vectra 2.2DTi with 44,800 miles on the clock, first rgistered in March 2004.

What would be your estimate of the cars value be and how near to a write off am I looking?

Thanks for any replies. I really would appreciate your opinions.

I had someone reverse into the front of my '06 signum a couple of months ago.
repair bill for some minor cracks was £1000.... that was bumper, grill, fittings etc plus labour and painting.... no bonnet.
I would say guess that yours is very close to a financial write off.

Sorry to hear this, I too icked up some frontal damage on the M'way the other day, your looking around £300 for a new bumper plus grills. Dony know what the bonnet will be.

    Good luck tho mate.

'Value' depends on mileage / condition etc and can be quite brutal when they are talking about your pride and joy.

The full extent of the damage to the crumble zone is hard to assess without disassembly.
A rule of thumb is that if hit hard enough to fire the airbags the car will be more likely to be written off than a relatively minor shunt.

If the car is drivable you could consider used parts to repair if you want to keep your car.

Probably about the £1600-£2000 mark if going through the insurance. If your repairing it privately should be able to repair it yourself for approx £500-£600
