    Default Brake Dust

    All,

Does anyone have any tips for reducing brake dust on the alloys. I'm not a heavy braker tend to use the gearbox to slow down. Couple of days after washing and there dusted up again.

    Paul.

You can't really avoid it Paul. The compounds that are used nowadays are a lot harder and more abrasive than the days of asbestos (look at how often people have to renew discs compared with asbestos pad days). The use of good quality pads is about as much as you can do.

on a previous car i used green stuff pads which left a lot less dust on the wheels, the dust they did leave was brown so did not look so bad.

You used to be able to get plastic discs to insert between the brake disc and the wheel. I had them on one of my Alfas and they worked quite well, but haven't seen them for yonks. Can't even remember what they're called.

    Try this:

    http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_...type=0&cat=293

It stops the brake dust from sticking.

the first couple of brakes were very slightly worse than normal, but once slightly warm there are better than normal.
