    confused Sqeaking brakes!!



    I have a sqeaking brake on a 1.9 CDTI 150, front wheel drivers side, i have copper greased the backs of the pads, and the calliper bolts, but it's still sqeaking.

    Who fitted them, are they new ?

    I had this and found out that the incorrect parts had been fitted

    under light braking??? i.e. slowing down in traffic ....coming to a stop from say 15-20 mph ??

    I would have said cheap pads (been there done that) but as you say they are original pads. I take it they are genuine GM pads

    Check the face of the pad as there may be a tiny stone or similar stuck in the pad comound which will cause a sqeak

    find this more and more with modern cars - no asbestos in the make up of the brake pads so no lubrication

    its resonance squeal of metal on metal under light braking
    you can "assist" the noise by chamfering the edges off of the brake pad which decreases surface area and improves the stilleto effect of pressure on surface area - but it will cause the pads and discs to wear quicker - the other option is a pad treatment that softens the surface area - again causing them to wear quicker
    my advice take the pads out give em a good abrasion on the surface area to remove any surface glazing and refit and let them bed in again

    we have this problem at work on ford,peugeot,citroens jaguars and others

    modern cars? pads have been like that since the 70's!

    the asbestos line is a favourite of after sales people in garages!

    Thanks, this turned out to be the disk guard that had been knocked, and was rubbing against the disk, causing the squeak!
