Default whats best to trust. fuel gauge or trip computer

my cars saying i have 33 miles left in the tank yet my fuel gage says i have quarter of a tank left, i know the trip computer goes on driving characteristics but its been same since about 75 miles, steady town driving and its gone down gradually since then to 33 but as i said the fuel gauge says quarter.

I have always found the fuel gauge more accurate than the range on the BC

Does the BC give an accurate figure for average mpg? Mine showed i averaged 53.7mpg over a 1900 mile journey with a 2.2dti. considering most of the time i was sat at 80mph on a french motorway with a boot full of stuff + a load of beer in the boot on the way back, i'm having trouble believing what its telling me.

The fuel gague is always more accurate, what you have to remember is that the range is worked out on your driving style. hth
