    Default Power Steering fluid

    Hi All

I have a warning light on my car for the power steering.
After a previous post it was suggested to me that the power steering fluid level could be low.

I identified this as the problem, but what would cause the steering fluid level to drop. Is this common enough or could there be a greater problem somewhere. There is nearly 100,000 miles on the clock.

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

    Hi Tadpole

Yeah, it looks pretty awkward to get to. I will top it up and see if it leaks any further. It would be interesting to know if anyone else topped up the resevoir and had no further problems.

    Thanks for the reply.

It was down just underneath the min mark on the bottle.

I went up on a kirb about six months ago, I wonder if I damaged something then.

A few cars have the compact EHPS system and the reservoir is underneath the cooling system expansion tank.

Most cars have the normal EHPS system which is located in front of the offside front wheel - if you open the bonnet and peer down the gap in front of the the air filter box (and behind the headlight unit), you should be able to see the filler cap - if you get the angle right.

I have a 2003 GTS. The fluid bottle is under the headlight on the driver side. I was able to get at it by locking the stearing to the left, remove 3 screws under the wheel arch, pulling out the bumper. This gave me some room so I could put my hand up to the bottle cap and I was able to unscrew the fluid cap. It was very stiff and I had to give it a few goes. I was able to get a funnell down to the bottle and re-fill..
