    Default throttle problem with a vectra B 2.0 16v

    Hi guys,

Am I allowed to post about Veccy Bs on a Veccy C forum??

Im hoping someone here will know whats up with the thing.

A friend of mine has the above mentioned car on a Y plate. The car drives normally most of the time but occasionally it just refuses to accellerate. he can put his foot hard down on the throttle and it will still just tick over - this is insanely dangerous when it goes on dual carriageway roundabouts! Almost like limp mode but 10 times worse. the rest of the time it will run fine.

He has had lambda sensor replaced (twice?!)as Tech2 suggested that was one fault, he has had new throttle potentiometer fitted and a couple of other things - can't remember what exactly.

Garage is saying that it 'must be' a shot ECU. this to me sounds like utter rubbish. If the ECU was broken then the problem would be permanent, not intermittent. Tim doesn't want to spend £1000 on a new ECU when the both of us don't believe it's the cause of the problem.

Anyone else ever come accross this? do you know what causes it?

I was thinking along the lines of dodgy solenoid on the inlet butterfly valves or generally dirty inlet manifold. I have not yet had the chance to get under the bonnet myself.

    THANKS!

Would not think its the ECU either..

Could it be an igniton/firing fault ? Does it do this on damp days or something like that ?

You checked the crankshaft sensor? Sounds like a similar problem I had with one of my old corsa's?

On the Corsa it was a Piece of Cake.....it was at the left side of the cambelt area as you look at the engine bay from front of car.

Another thing that a friend of mine had an issue with a few years ago was the Coil Pack....dont know if this would give same symtoms though!

    Oh, and your comment about
