Default 2.0 DTi 03 Vectra - Limp Mode - Help!!

    Please help!!

I have an 03 Vectra 2.0 DTi (Y20 DTH) and am losing the will to live with it.

The spanner light came on a few weeks ago and the car goes into limp mode. I have changed all the following over a few weeks of trial and error.

    -Mass Air Flow Meter
    -MAP Sensor
    -Air/Oil/Fuel Filter (incl. oil change)
-Boost pipes and checked (split one replaced)
    -EGR valve

What actually happens is this. The car will start and run fine, accelerate etc. turbo boosting perfectly. However when the engine comes to idle/tickover the spanner light comes on and car goes into limp mode. If I switch the car off and back on again it is fine until you need to idle i.e. at lights etc. Over the course of the few weeks I had it scanned for codes and was told that it was EGR related.

    Any ideas anyone??

Also on another note-separate issue when the engine is running, if i press and hold the trip button I have the following on the dash - 1.7 in small numbers and 00104 in the big numbers. Again any ideas??

Thanks to the forum in advance - I am a newbie, and a very grateful one!!

Check your vacuum hoses for splits around the connectors also check that all the connection,s are secure and fitted in the right place , failing that clean the boost sensor , look for the how too on this in the section , if you need any more help give us a shout

I would take a guess at it being a fault on the vac set up somewhere as it's only doing it on idle

I had a similar problem many moons ago. Car ran fine and then went into limp mode, turn off the engine for 5 mins and it was fine again. It turned out to be the rubber sleeves over the vacuum pipes. There's a sensor at the front above the radiator and the sleeving was split. I found that out from this forum.

Hi bremford , there is no definitive cause for this kind of fault the easiest way is probably to have the car tech 2 ed then come back on here get the garage to record what fault,s are showing up , what i suspect you will find are .

    boost sensor fault,s , usually just need,s a clean
egr valve faults , again try cleaning before paying for a replacement
vacuum faults check your connectors are secure and not perished and are also fitted in the right places, even garages are known to screw this up

There are several guides available in the how too section of the forum which should steer you in the right direction any problem,s give us a shout i am only 15 min away from you

Hi mate what i should of also said was to phone around and ask how much each of the dealers(stealers) charge for a tech 2 you will find the prices vary quite wildly but as a guide fox,s charge around £65 for a tech 2, but try playing one of against the other it usually works .

As above you really do need to fault codes to be precise...

However... i would have a look at the Air flow meter they usually do cause the same symptoms, if you know anyone with the same motor do a quick swap over & test...
