I basically work it that when it starts flashing you should find the nearest petrol station

I have managed 10 miles when the readout says 0 miles left so mine is not accurate. I run a 2.8 turbo so it drinks a bit!!

    Dont quote me though!!!

Don't trust the computer. if the light on the dash is flashing probably best to get someone to take you for a can of petrol. Driving with the light flashing will drag all of the crap and dirt from the bottom of the tank into the filter and clog it up hth

When the light comes on, fill it up. It's a warning light for a reason, not a competition light...

I've found this one out the hard way, was coming up the M74 with fuel light on and decided to pass a service station and try to get to the next one, ran out of diesel 2 miles before the next service station. All because the one I was aiming for had a Costa Coffee lol

I think the light flashing allegedly means you have 1L left so you should get 9-10 miles out of it however if you run out of fuel, don't blame me :P

Once, my Vec-B was showing 17 miles remaining, parked it half on the pavement, so at an angle. When I came out the next morning, it had trouble starting. I got it started, but was running on kangaroo fuel.. Limped to a petrol station, and thought I had learned my lesson...

... Until... I had 7 miles showing on the computer of my Vec-C. The car was running fine. Due to unforseen circumstances I hadn't filled it up, and parked it up overnight, half on the pavement, and when I returned in the morning, it wouldn't start. Pushed it off to level it out, gave it 10 minutes and it still wouldn't start. I had to fill a can up, and felt like a right plank. I now fill it up as soon as the computer warns me (31 miles remaining).

I guess on both occassions, if I had been parked on the level, I probably wouldn't have had a problem. I have learned my lesson now, and leaving it go so low is risky, as you never know what's around the corner. You might have to make an emergency dash in the middle of the night, and the last thing you want to do is have to look for a petrol station.

As previously said should never let it run that low as all the crap in the bottom of the tank will get dragged up. The filter is there for a reason and will get blocked up very quickly, causing poor running. I am an RAC patrol, you'd be surprised how often this happens
