, I would like to see some evidence too, and especially would like to know about any long term effects!

Not a chance! Yep its going to clean them but CIF is an abrasive so there going to dull in time through loads of tiny scratches. Proper abrasive polishes tend to break down during use so the abrasives get smaller and smaller as you work them, Cif wont. Very Cherry for me, or if I have to buy off the shelf then I find the Megs purple stuff to be the best.

All im interested in is something that clears off weeks of brake dust without me getting on hands and knees with a wire brush to scrub....of course im looking for a cheap solution! Poundland alloy wheel cleaner doesnt seem to cut the mustard anymore !

I wasn't thinkin of using cif everytime, just if for example you buy a car second hand and brake dust is baked on it's wheels.
I just changed the bathroom suite in my flat, the glossy finish had become dull from being cleaned with cif type creams.... but to be fair the suite was 25
