Thread: My aftermarket Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

Default My aftermarket Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

    Tyresure Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

In an attempt to automatically monitor what my tyre pressures are doing, I fitted a tyre pressure monitoring system to the Vectra VXR over the weekend.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfUVtgeBRUU

I considered the 'inbuilt' vauxhall system, but it was too expensive and didnt give me the details that I wanted. Specifically I wanted to see the pressure at all times, and also wanted to see the tyre temperatures as well.

    System offers:-

    - 24 hour, 365 monitoring of tyre pressures and temperatures
    - 7 Year Sensor Battery Life
    - Audio Alerts on low/high temperature or pressure
    - High visability screen

    Got the system from here...

Identified four problems with it already....

    1) It takes around 10 seconds for the system to 'upload' the sensor readings, although it can be wired so that the screen always reads the sensor data, even when turned off... but I didnt know where to get a perminant live from... I might have another go later

    2) You cant easily see the screen if the sun is directly on it...

    3) In the instructions it states that the sensors are accurate within +1/-1 PSI/degrees. This sounds ok, but in reality its a bit annoying.

Reason being, you have one independant sensor in each wheel. Each sensor has a +1/-1 accuracy. So the potential is all the sensors will read slightly different pressures and temperatures to each other... this is annoying ... but only to those that like all their numbers to look the same on each side of the car

I've since decided to measure the pressures via my manual tyre pressure monitor and then use the automatic display to monitor the pressure and temperature 'range'.

So long as the readings are within +1/-1 of what the correct pressures are, then I'm not worried...

    4) There is a discrepancy between the tyre sensor pressure results and my manual tyre pressure reader, My manual tyre pressure reader says 42 PSI front and 38 PSI rear.... the system says 40 PSI front and 37 PSI rear !!... Arrrgh

Steve... just a couple of questions ? or anyone who's fitted them.

    1.
How well are these secured to the valve, can they be easily taken off or nicked. ? you know what kids can be like.

    2. Looking at the sensors which fit to the valve, they look sufficiently larger enough to maybe affect wheel balance, probably little weight in them, but have you noticed if they affected wheel balance, and so needed re-balancing. ?

The system comes with a new valve and a pressure sensor (which is firmly bolted to the valve base on the inside of the tyre) Kids cant nick it, as its on the inside of the tyre

Yep, they do affect wheel balance, but the tyre fitters rebalance the wheel once they have been fitted. I've had no problems with the wheel balance since fitment
