Default New Vectra - late 2008

This link will take you to Auto Express's article this week
    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au...ll_vectra.html

I am sceptical that the Vectra replacement will be as radical as Auto Express have intimated. Comments would be welcome.

On another tack, the 2.0T engine has been withdrawn from the Astra line-up and replaced with a 1.6T one generating about the same power output as the 2.0T, but with much-reduced emissions, and improved fuel economy. Volkswagen and Fiat have also now got new lower-emissions 1.4 turbocharged engines.

Auto Express also indicated that the new 1.6 turbo engine will feature in the line-up for the new Vectra. Could this mean that the 2.0T engine will no longer be offered?

In Geneva today (business, not pleasure) and had a look in at the motor show (next to the airport - it would be rude not to....). The concept on the Opel stand looks just as good in the flesh as it does in the pictures - everyone else thought so too, judging by the crowds around it, all smoking gauloise and jabbering their compliments in French - the Porsche stand was less crowded.

One car that was outstanding though was the new F**d Mundano. It is a stunning car. Makes the Vectra's headlights look clumsy from the front and great from every angle except the rear 3/4 where the haunches in the estate and the saloon look just a tiny bit uncomfortable. I've got to say I like it (cue thunderbolt from upon high).

G.O'Rilla, thunderbolts are on their way mate.

It still staggers me that puffing billies are still allowed in such an environment.

The 2.0T engine in the Vectra is a totally different engine to the 2.0T in the Astra.

The new 1.6 Turbo may find it's way in the new Vectra, but there has been no official mention of engine line ups in the new car, so all magazine articles will be pure speculation.

I know Astra 2.0T engine is different (Z20LET vs Z20NET IIRC) just thought if the new Vectra offers the 1.6T it may have something to do with the shift towards lower-capacity engines with decent output and reduced emissions, fuel economy and road tax etc....that's all.

Anyhow, the 1.6T is totally new so has yet to prove itself in the real world.

Certainly take your point about speculation.... Auto Express has a penchant for it !

Seems VX/Opel are obsessed with upstaging Ford.........drove a new Focus and didn't like it....the interior's cheap and dull and it has no footrest for your clutch foot (criminal!), and a 2-line trip computer in one of the dials....shoddy! Drives well but raucous at speed.....no likee.

VX should stick to their guns....signs are good for future models... the new Corsa knocks spots off the competition......if it ain't broke.....don't fix it!!

I know the VXR brand manager, apparently the 1600 16v Turbo is a well over engineered unit and word has it, it is capable of a reliable 240bhp.

I am told this is the best engine built since the original 2.0 16v XE of 1988.
