    Default newbie wannabe

    hi all....i have just joined your forum and have found it to be very informative, a great forum guys.

    Ok now il cut to the chase, i am not currently a vectra c owner but i am, in the next few months, looking for a replacement taxi. I have decided not to buy a diesel this time. The reason for this, in my opinion, is there is far too much to go wrong on new diesel vehicles, whether its audi bmw skoda vauxhall....whatever it is.....

    I do around 50-70k miles on average a year in my trusty pug 406 (274000miles!!!) half of which will be motorway. My fellow colleagues have all replaced their cars with various different diesel offerings ranging from bmw 530d sports, saab 93, mazda 6, mondeos, accords...and guess what all have had major issues. Over the last few months 2 have blown up due to dpf filter problems, dual mass flywheels are breaking on all of them, egr valves give up all the time, turbos let go....the list goes on......

    I have heard of all these problems on the vectra cdti's on this forum, but trust me its not just the vectra...its all of the manufacturers having the same issues with their new diesels!!!!!

    This is the reason why i am looking into buying a vectra c 1.8 vvti sri due to it not having a dmf, egr valve, turbo.....
    Power is not an issue as my pug is only 90bhp so 140 bhp should be plenty enough.

    SO in conclusion i would like to ask any 1.8 owner of common faults issued with this car and will it be good enough to become a reliable workhorse?

    not being a 1.8 owner I can only go by not seeing to many complaints about the 1.8 engine ...good luck with your purchase

    i run my 1.8 sxi veccy as a private hire, i decided on petrol for the same reasons you mention. £2-£3 per shift difference in fuel is acceptable for me for better refinement and lower maintenance bills over a deisel. i get 35-45 mpg no problem.
    i ran two previous petrol vectra b's to 200k with no problems and intend doing the same with the c.
    easy regular diy oil+filter changing through vauxhall trade club, and cheaper insurance than the deisels. no dmf. no turbo.
    as with all cars you get good ones and bad, i allways buy with fsh. usually ex company cars with vaux sh.
