    I have a solid idea...don't get one

What started off as a feature strongly linked to exclusive vehicles that set you apart from the working class,is now just a little cheesy, and as far as work goes we're now pulling and seizing motors for no insurance etc with so called private plates...Certainly not the badge they once were In my humble opinion

Many years ago, I bought a Northern Ireland plate to go on a ltd edition peugeot that I got. Had so many problems getting insurance etc. as the car was only made in 1992 but cause it was first used by a squaddie who had it on german plates when it came to the uk, had 1993 plates on it.

I paid £57 for the plate (a long time ago) and then had to pay the £80 transfer fee....

Private plates are ok, but they cost a fortune to buy (but you never actually own them! - they are all owned by the DVLA) and when you change the car you have to pay for the priviledge of putting your plate on it again.

I would never have another one. It would be cheaper to change your initials or name by deep pole

I quite like private plates... the VXR has a 'VXR' plate on it which is quite good for club meets etc.

My other mate has number plates ending in 'JON' on all his cars (4 of them) - lol (guess what his name is...)

So its good fun and a nice personal modification...

Downside is... your easy to spot (eh FIL )
