Default day one of GSi ownership not going well at all

well after picking the car up this morning at 11 i found out the cam belt wasnt done, as established thats my fault for not checking, then after driving all the way home my brother pointed out its not taxed, i rang the guy i bought it off who assured me last week it would be taxed and m.o.t'd, he told me he doesnt tax any cars he sells, so now i cant tax it online, im going to have to wait for new insurance docs to come through and if it can only be taxed with my name on V5 ill have to wait for that to come which on my last car took over 5 weeks!!! then he points out the tyres are just legal.... all 4!!!, again my fault for not really checking too, then on start up theres a pic of a car with a spanner through it, its had a service so what it means i dont know, so im the proud owner of a gsi i cant drive, and is going to cost £300 in tyres, £450 on a cam belt and £215 in car tax, i accept my blame, doesnt make it any easier though knowing ive got a car there i cant drive

It happens to the best of it mate, go was polish and care for it. Won't be that long till you can drive it.

By the way if you have the small green strip from the v5 you can tax it, get you insurers to e-mail you a cover note

not actually bought that many cars (I tend to keep them around 4 years!) but even so, when I bought my turby last year I went with my brother (as an extra pair of eyes, me to see how it started/dash lights come on then off, sound of engine etc etc & him to check paintwork/body/interior etc) glad I did, missed some really obvious things! as JR2 said, give it a clean/polish you will soon be driving it, and you will know for next time

Absolutely got to be an original; faxes, email are not acceptable. However you can only try, handy if your a post office regular!

You can tax your car at the post office or local DVLA in person with the green V5 new keeper slip, valid MOT certificate, original insurance documentation and the money.

Or you can do it online once the DVLA has received you change of ownership details and updated the system, and as long as you have insurance in force on the day the VED come sinto force, no paperwork required, again must be MOT'ed. It is more expensive if you use a credit card, unfortunately you can'y use the vehicle until the disc arrives, 5 days grace is only offered for the first 5 days of the months and is only applicable to relicensing and coming off SORN.

Spanner light means something may well be wrong, suggest you get a code reader on it and possibly some advice. If you got the MOT and tax bit written it's part of your contract and therefore the trader should do it. Also if the car's not fit for purpose, or its unroadworthy (any tyre under 1.6mm) as a trader they will absolutely be responsible for sorting it - see Consumer Direct.

I hope your vectra ownership experience improves! Welcome aboard

Could be a service light on the dash. If you dont know hold the milage trip in, switch the ignition on, keep holding trip for 30 seconds. That should reset it.

Wrong, swift cover send out their cover notes via email and thats the only way you'll get one from them. I have used one before no problem. Just make sure you have a good printer. You are not forging the document in any way
