    Default kickdown sluggish

    guys.

    iv got a 2004 2.2dti auto 38000miles.
    the problem is this.......

about a week ago the spanner light started to occasionally come on, now it comes on for about 45 seconds on cold start up. anyway, for the last 3 days its got very sluggish and the kickdown doesent seem to be working very well at all, then all of a sudden the ****** thing just stopped dead and would not start at all, i left it for a few mins and it started again.

it is due for a service next week , and iv disconnected the battery for a few hours at the mo to see if it will reset anything.

has anyone got any ideas? its really not good.

    thanks people.

First things first, you need to get a code reader on the car to see what codes are stored and this will help everyone out. If you look in the How 2 section there is a How 2 for reading codes without a code reader but I believe this may not work for all models, but is worth a try.

Once we know your code/code's then we can give some better help on the problem.

We had a similar issue with sluggish kickdown on our 2.2DTi auto. It was a split boost hose. It got progressively worse until it was constantly in limp mode

the main big hose just under the engine cover. The one that comes off the turbo (not the one that comes from the air box).

Best bet if not too sure is go to any local garage and just ask if they could check your boost hose. Most places will not charge for a quick 2min inspection. It only takes the smallest hole rip or tear in the boost hose to cause problems.

    Default sorted!

    many thanks to you guys.

i took it to a kwit fit, the fella couldnt have been more helpfull.

it came up on the diag as an ecu air leak. and another young lad came over and spotted a tiny black pipe next to the battery that indeed was split where it pushes onto its fitting.

he reset all the codes any christ alive! it flies now.
iv had the car 7 or so months and believe it must have always had this fault, because it is going like never before.

once again, thanks for all your help.

Nice one, I like these stories with happy endings - the problem I find with Quik Fit is all that singing and dancing........

    Default kwik fit fitta!

well unfortunatly after it was fixed they didnt all jump in the air ang shout 'hey!' (yeilding various spanners).

or am i just showing my age!

But joking aside, i rang the folkestone branch near where i was camping with my 2 little lads (was actually in one of my mums fields) and they said something like 'ah nah mate no one here on a sunday can use it'.
i thought ok i'll try a diff branch so rang ashford (20 mins away), i explained the horror to him on the phone, camping, miles from home etc, and the guy actually said on the phone 'ok m8 bring her up, im not a service guy but iv seen them use it a thousand times lets give it a shot!'
so when i pulled up there , literally just got the handbrake up and this old fella was at the window with a great big 'bosh' kinda suitcase affair.
anyway within literally 3 mins despite two boys 3 and 6 trying to kill eachother in the back of the car he said its showing ecu leak and a code 0040 or something like that, so he said wait there i'll look the code up and the fix for it.
meanwhile im standing there thinking oh how long gone are the days of my morris traveller , carb, battery engine . this vaux is a computer run diesel powered beast!

anyway he returned 5 mins later shuffling some papers came up to me and explained its an air leak on the egr? and actually had a printout with drawings! of how to cut a certain wire to bypass this and make it all good again, but he said this is not a good idea and insisted we should look more closely under the bonnet, and another young lad that was there just said 'hey look at this!' it was a tiny tiny split in the hose (see above explanation) he said yup thats the problem. and the rest is history.

then the old fella just wondered off with his bit of kit, and the 2 lads went too.
anyway i went over and gave them a drink.

its actually totally restored my faith in human nature.
indeed, as on this forum, there are still some really genuine, nice, decent people about.

    regards.
