Possible next purchase

Found a lovely 2.2 SRi in lovely condition on a 2003 03. Its on sale at a garage for just under 3k with 90k miles and, of course, im going to haggle.

What should i look for on the SRi's that may have been bodged/optional extra/common faults etc? I noticed that it has a single slot cd player where most i have seen have the 4 slot. Has this been replaced or is it standard? Cheers for any help.

Also i found on egay a 2.2 DTi Vectra elite on a 2002 with an engine fault. Apparently it goes on limp home mode if you accelerate hard. What would this be? Is it worth the 2k starting price? If its a big job to fix id rather leave it (especially after my last episode) but i quite like the Elite with its leather etc. Would it be worth spending a few quid on?

on my 2.0dti when i accelarted hard the limp mode came on... this was due to a split hose..

I can imagine theres a thousand reasons though..

If you could mate i'd hold out for a good DTi, they are dirt cheap and under rated. They have about as much power as the petrol 2.2 (don't believe the paper figures), more torque than the pertrol and of course they'll do 47+mpg on a run.
I love my dti and although a tad noisy on tickover you'd hardly know that they are a diesel when running hth

After sleeping on it i wont bother with the elite. If it was an easy fix im sure it would have been sorted out. The SRi that i liked has been taken off sale due to a misfire

its a gorgeous looking car too. I have to admit that im getting a bit downhearted now because all the Vectras i look at seem to have problems. I darent spend any more than 3k due to not working but i would have thought i could find a decent car for that amount.

My one cost me 3500 when i bought it last october. It did have 82k on the clock. I've now done 5k in it and its now needing a new wheel bearing and two new upper control arms which after nearly a year of running i can live with. Honestly the dti's are great cars
