Well my 1.8vvt has managed 2750 miles from new and only required 2 repairs, so cannot grumble at that.

    Sorry mate... could'nt resist!

Seriously I think as long as the cambelt is changed at the right time, they will keep going some crazy high milages. I know an old gent who has 142k on a old vx 1.8 ecotec, and still going strong. Dont know about the 2.2.

It really depends on what the previous history is, expected annual mileage is, and general vehicle use

I would expect the first 4 years / 80K miles to be fairly low cost
Equally, most items will be covered under warranty up to 3 years / 60K miles
Have a service and MoT done in the last month before the warranty expires
Once the car is beyond 100K miles then you start entering heavy maintenance costs, which can include cylinder head skimming, air con pump failure, rear subframe bushes, and so on
With a cambelt change have the water pump replaced at the same time

At each service ask for a report on the state of the front subframe bushes
These are MEGA expensive to replace, although they do last about 120K miles
I've sold my cars when I was advised they were starting to show signs of failure

Not at all, its a motorway engine. Same block as the 2.0T but with a longer stroke. They only rattle if the chain is shot other than that with it having balancer shafts there super smooth.
