    Default 2nd service

Hi all the cars in for service 40k £175 at the dealers they have just told me thet the rear discs and pads are 99% worn and the dics glazed and scored and need replacing now, yet the fronts are fine with 40% left in the pads.Is this strange as i thought the fronts did most work?.Also they wanted to charge to free and lubricate the hand brake lingages! that got an on yer bike from me !.57 2.2 sri btw.

    cheers

my vec just had its second service yestarday (main service) came back with same thing discs ok pads worn which i found was strange as i only bought the car at the begining of the year and payed for it to be network q which means they should have been changed then lucky for me i had 12 months brake and clutch, etc cover so dident have to fork out for them. but i do agree its a bit strange the back always go before the front

It's quite common for the rear pads to wear out before the fronts.

Gets commented on here quite often.

what i find strange is that it needs the brakes doing already...mines an 06 plate cdti with 45,000 on the clock and my brakes are fine....my previous sri 2.2dti on a 03 plate had 50,000 on the clock when i traded it in and never needed any brakes doing, and believe me i'm not easy on the brakes!!

My dad's motor went in for its 3rd Service last week and we were told that the rear pads have about 4-6 months left in them, yet the front ones were perfect!

    qucik update,

just picked it up and noticed that there was 90% left on the front after 38k.So i then asked what was wrong with the brakes and got told nothing. Then i was told that the hand brake linkage HAD NOT been greased and freed. My response was surley thats part of the service the answer no!I was then told by someone else it had been as i had complained over the phone when they rang to say it needed rear disks.

So it appears that this linkage (from what i can gather) holds on the inner rear pad for the handbrake and as its not a service item would not have been looked at on the first service hence the wear on the disks. The service tech said that rears going first was a common thing!.

This sound to me like a good money earner for dealers if vauxhall havent made this linkage part of the service!.

    cheers
