    Default Sub help please

Right, just made a box to go into the void behind the right hand cuby hole door in the boot. Well I've got an old vibe unit which I want to strip and put into my new box (amp and sub). Its 10 inch and 600w I think. Now I know that the sub should be matched to a box size and this is my problem. My box is smaller, will this make much difference? Will it work, and should I port it as the original was?

Well ... It might ... or not ...
    Depends on several things.

How much the new box-size diff from the orig.
What sub it is ... and its values.
What type of bass you want it to play ... as loud as possible or hifi ...

If you port it as the original box it wont sound the same as the old box, as
the port should be matched with the speaker and the size of the box.
( Wich is now smaller )

Dont know all the values as the sub, box and amp came as one unit and as its two years old I have thrown the box away. It used to produce crushing amounts of bass, but thats not what im after now, just a good nice solid backround thump. Well I might be tempted to turn it up when im on my own.

At least one thing one is for sure ... if you want the box to be tuned for
the same frequency as the old one, the port should be longer. ( As the box is smaller).
How much is hard to say without all values.
But if the box is, say 30% smaller, the port should be 30% longer.
( if it gonna be tuned at the same freq., and the port is same diam. )

Just play with it and see how it sounds. If the original box made by vibe had a port in it i suggest you do the same. If you keep it sealed you will find you will get a hard quick punch. If you decide to port it, the base becomes a little slower and lower in sound also bearing in mind if you pad the box out with rock wall of some kind a little stuffing is good and fill the box up and you will get youself lower base and less punch.
It's all about testing and testing.
    Cheers

Subs and Amps are good but you will need a large cable running from the front of the car/battery going to the back and it must be fused near the battery. You can come through the passenger side and down along the side seals into the back and into another fused box, then to you amp.

Slow work in progress telboy. Used to have Kicker components in my pug and thought they were the nuts. Been looking at some Polk comps at the moment, not a bad price, good job cos im going to need two sets for the vec.
