    Default Here is a thought.....

Following on from this thread.... When do you change your tyres?

    Something occured to me.....

I drive a performance car with HUGE AP Racing brakes. The insurance company consider them to be a safety upgrade ! - which I agree

The brakes contain DS-2500 Ferodo racing pads for high temperature stopping power

Tomorrow I'm getting brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres all round the car.. so its basically going to have the maximum stopping power.

Question is.. does this make my car more or less safe for other road users?

ie... there is no chance another car travelling behind me is going to emergency stop in the same distance, wet or dry !

and they wont have a clue how powerful this car stops (including ABS, EBD & ESP), so how could they gauge the correct distance....

    Who's at fault?

... and if your car stops well within the Highway Code 'braking distances' are you more liable to be a risk on the road?

How can other road users know to extend their distance from you?

If someone goes in the back of you its their fault, simples. IE your car will not stop in the same distance as a car with carbon ceramic brakes.......

    lol... good point...

Is it the person in front who had the beat of brake sets fault for having better brakes than those fitted as standard to other motors?

I think it would be one for the legal eagles to fight it out! I think you'd be ok in a VXR however if you#d done similar mods to a std vectra/ signum you'd have a better argument if you'd driven into the back of them.
You'd expect a performance car to de-cellerate as efficiently as it accelerates! A sleeper car puts the cat amongst the pigeons!

If the car in front had Carbon Ceramic Brakes I know that I was following something very special indeed... and would probably end up in the papers the next day if I rear ended it

very true, although they are more and more common place on top end mercs and 911's. They are not that "special" compared to a lambo, loads of them about too

well just think... u have a car that passes the brake test...just..

Your 2 seconds behind the car infront.. as per the highway code... its filmed... and shows that u braked at the same time as the car infront...

But due to the car infront having god knows what brakes it stops way before you do and you slam into the back of it ....

    Who's fault is it??

The car behind did nothing wrong..!! hmmmm
