    Default Loss of instruments

Had a problem today and any advise would be great.
Had driven for about 2 miles, came to a roundabout everything fine.
Pulled away and after 100 yards noticed all gauges were on ZERO.
Car was still accelerating ok. Put indicator on to pull into layby, heard indicator flasher ok but no warning light on dash, then flashed headlights to check-could see lights working but again no dash warning light.
Pulled over turned off-restarted ok with all gauges ok and lights working.
Any ideas-sorry for the long story but have tried to explain

    sounds like a software glitch...

all the systems are controlled by computerised signals from the can-bus.

sounds like you did the car version of a computer cold-start / re-boot.
If nothing else happens then fair enough, however if it re-occurs then it could be a program fault...

If it returns and stays faulty then it could be a loose connector or corrosion in a plug..but where to start....possible water ingress through the scuttle panel drain points etc or near the pollen filter housing.

Plugs are quite well made and don't separate that easily, and so the possibility of dirty corroded connections should be considered.

Its one of two things. CIM module, £350+ dealer fix only or dirty ABS plug, free with some contact cleaner.

    Default loss of dashboard instruments

    Hi,

I have been experiencing the same problem, however when i put the hazards on, the fault disappears - is this likely to be the expensive option to fix?

Just had this same problem tonight, having travelled to a friends and parked, no problem. When I returned the door light stayed on, I checked all the doors and initially thought it was a faulty door sensor.

Started to drive and noticed that nothing on the instrument display was working apart from the constant red door light.

Got home and checked the fuses, all were ok however I noticed that when I removed/replaced the Instrument display fuse (no 17 I think,) the instrument display reset and now works fine.

The car is still in its warranty, should I get Vx to check it out??

Yes. The problem may manifest itself into something more serious and costly.

Follow Rushys advice because one of those two things will cause those exact symptoms. The ABS plug is an easy DIY job, as Rushy said though, the CIM module will be a bit of a killer. It'll be one or the other
