Default Help nightmare trip to Vauxhall

    This is disturbing!
I decided to stick my car (Vec SRI 2.2 Direct 05), into Vauxhall to have a few problems checked out. It has ab obviously noisy drive belt...maybe timing chain which catches now and again and trips the eng manageent light for a while. It is also using oil at a fairly worrying rate i.e 4 litres in 22k with ni sign of leak or smoke. There are also a few creaks from the suspension. Car has covered 57k.
Anyway Vaux agreed to give it a full check up and diagnostic for agreed cost of 2 hours labour...not ideal but ok.
    Answer as follows:
EM light coming on, swirl flap sticking requires replacement actuator and rod seals, gaskets and 4 injector seals £760
Rattling from engine oil level very low requires top up and recheck etc £18
    Front brakes and pads £160
Noise from osf suspension needs new springs £340
Needs rear upper susp bushes £320
With a few other minor things they wanted £1,660. I decided to leave and just pay the 2 hours labour but am now stuck with a car that needs fixed and not cost me the earth. My concerns are that they cannot seem to diagnose the aux belt /chain noise and that the car is using lots of oil!
    Anybody got any advice?

Visit LMF or Eurocarparts and see just how much you can save by getting the parts required and you can always DIY with help of the extremely useful how 2's and save an absolute fortune from what you've been quoted.

For instance you can pick up a set of Eibach Pro Springs for all 4 corners of your car for £158 from LMF and probably even slightly cheeper from Eurocarparts. Or you could just pick up the 2 prings you require (replace in pairs) and half this cost again. Alternatively get all the bits and get a local garage at half the labour charge to the work.

Mine didn't use a drop between the last time it was serviced and this time:- 11,000 miles. An 06 2.2 Elite Auto with 42,000 miles on the clock.

My previous 53 reg (Jan 04) 2.2 used approx 1 litre every 2,500 miles though. Had done 36,000 miles prior to it being written off.

No two engines are alike. Some use oil, some don't.

Don't VX quote an ok oil usage as something like 1ltr every 1000 miles?

As already said, get the bits and do what you can yourself
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Thanks...looks like the oil usage is ok then, and I'll get the suspension parts sorted no probs.

The swirl flap, actuator, etc is something that is an issue though...anybody had to do that on a direct engine before? Is this a fuel pump prob in disguise?

    Cheers

If you are after the parts only, Autovaux could well be your cheapest option,
Phone this number and ask to speak to Mark or Kieran, they are both top blokes and very helpful.

    Cheers everybody for the help.

Benny, yeah I'm on the z22se site too...only advice I've had is fuel pump may be causing hassle...but not sure if that means it's an additional prob...or probs I've got are wrongly diagnosed.

Not enjoying this when I'm saving to go away on holiday in 2 weeks!
