    Default Wobble on idle and at 1k rpm-CDTI 150

    Guy's,

    I've just fitted a brand new EGR valve to my dad's CDTI 150 and there is something else thats been bugging me for a while, im sure I started a thread before but cannot locate it now.

    Basically, when the car is cold and on idle, it almost wobbles....and then when I rev it to 1k rpm and hold it at that, the whole car shakes as though it is trembling....it actually feels like its running on 3 cylinders, but when you rev further its fine. The crazy thing is the rev counter doesnt move up or down when its idling so the rev's aint jumping!

    Basically, im trying to eliminate the 3rd injector issue. The swirl bar is fully connected and the bar moves when rev'd and moves at all 4 points.

    Im wondering whether this has anything to do with the flat spot or is this the famous fob off about the alternator voltage, etc, that has been issued by Vx?

    What have I done so far:
    - Cleaned EGR Valve and Inlet Manifold of soot build up;
    - Cleaned boost sensor;
    - Replaced EGR valve for one that has been re-worked by Vx;
    - Replaced EGR for a BRAND NEW ONE;
    - Done the Air Box mod;
    - Fitted K&N Panel Filter;
    - All code's cleared and nothing showing at present!

    So, your thoughts please!

    Thanks, G.

    Bye bye Vec B

    G,

    Have you tried disconnecting the Negative (-ve) on the battery for 20 minutes to reset the ECU to factory settings.

    Then take her out for a blast and see if it's any better.

    As you've change some components, the ECU may have got used to old settings and not running to the new components.

    It could also be the DMF. Does it "wobble" as the engine is turned off?
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Thats exactly what mine did before I changed the 3rd injector - thats almost certainly the cause of the fault.

    The DMF can cause it, but for it to cause the car to wobble, it would need to be fair rattling, but I assume it isn't..?

    Its already had a DMF about 20k miles ago and there is no rattle.

    When I say wobble, its more like a tremble as though its cold and is shivvering... Its soo hard to explain.

    I disconnected the battery when I fitted the new EGR on Saturday but its must have been for approx 10-15 mins at the most, should I try leaving it off overnight one day on the weekend?

    Also, how hard is it to change the 3rd Injector....and is it the 3rd from right or left?

    Dead easy mate, there is a how to for it.

    Its third from the left (as you stand infront of the car).

    My 2.8 Fiat Ducato suffered from the same phenomenon, except it's on injector 4. They don't make the electrical wire to injector 4 long enough.

    Would have done job myself, but the access on the Ducato is tiny, for someone with hands like stumps!

    The principle is the same for the CDTi, as I've looked at the HOW2, but access looks much better on the VX

    I know its not a VX but my missus has a Ford Focus Diesel and it suffered what sounds like the exact same symptoms as you describe. My next door neighbour is a mechanic for Peugot so he took it in and checked the problem out etc.. The problem turned out to be the CAT had broken up inside. I couldn't believe that a CAT failing could cause the engine to run so bad (felt like it was only firing on 3 on idle and low revs with juddereing shuddering to match). The car used to go fine once it was going until the end, when the car just eventually lost power and loads of black stuff out the back. Now knowing it was the CAT failing it has actually been going for the about a year before it gave up the ghost.

    New CAT on and what a difference, as I say just could not believe the CAT could cause such problems. We were putting it off and off as thought it was actually the turbo or deep engine trouble.

    Anyway! Hope you get it sorted mate and just to let you know VMG got the kick plates today and will leave +feedback later. Cheers.

    Bri.
