Default Oil leak at oil level switch connector

I have an oil leak at the oil level switch connector that comes out the front of the sump. I have the 3.2Lt engine. Looks like there is an o ring seal but it appears that the connector can only be removed to the inside of the sump.
My question is - can the sump be removed with the engine in the car.
The sump is also bolted to the gearbox (auto), I am guessing this is to strengthen the connection of engine/gearbox. Thank you from Australia.

    Hi Mark
yes jack up car and remove ribbed v belt cover (4 bolts)remove front exhaust pipe,be carefull with exhaust you must support it if flexi pipe bends it will fracture for sure.remove exhaust system you will need the help of 1 or 2 mates to lower it or you may damage cat, drain engine oil, disconnect dynamic oil levelharness plug, and remove sump ther are 4 bolts on transmission side and17 on engine sump.if sump is stuck don't insert anything inbetween sealing surfaces of block and sump.
    clean all surfaces
when you refit apply a good gasket sealant to sump, oil pump joints and cylinder block joints.
cut the heads of 2 long m8 bolts and screw in finger tight to act as guides,be carefull to ease the sump up to transmission then press sump up to engine block, use a thread locking compound on bolts and tighten from inside outwards (dont forget to remove guide bolts)torque bolts up to 15Nm on sump,and40Nm on transmission. finally becarefull refitting exhaust system. good luck
