Default Chirping noise when turning left

lately im getting an odd noise when applying lots of left lock on the steering. Doesnt happen with right lock though which is odd.

The noise is on/off and doesnt seem to get more or less frequent with speed. However it is very quiet and is barely inaudible with the windows shut

with the windows open however, it almsot sounds like squeaky brakes but im not on the brakes, and it can happen at any speed while applying left steering lock so its definately not tyres breaking grip or brakes.

any suggestions ? i know its a bit of an odd one.

I've heard some power steering units squeal or chirp on full lock...but this is usually in both directions, and considered to be normal...
Some cars...especially late 90's fords used to judder the steering wheel on full lock.

As it doesn't seem to be affected by road speed, we can discount anything rubbing in the wheel housings.
If it is affected by engine speed then you would assume some form of drive / cam belt rubbing / slipping.

Personally, I would err towards the power steering.

does it even with small ammounts of lock

its still under warranty so im going to book it into the dealers. Just would like an idea as to what it might be as to whether it will be covered under warranty or not.

i did wonder if id chained him down too hard

ive had so many problems with my VXR lately, im not sure if im just being paranoid, but i think i can feel some unwanted vibration comming from the front left wheel. Plus after taking the wheel off for a good clean, the nuts have come loose twice now.

Each time ive put it down to me not tightenning them enough, but twice ? i'm sure somethings amiss. Trouble is, when i had the wheel off for cleaning i deliberately had a look and everything looked and felt fine.

Mine made a similar noise to what you describe, for me it was the strut top mount that needed lubeing.

    orrible noise too.

With the car wheels off the ground A bit of lube was squirted in the general direction up into the strut top area, that sorted it, oh and the spring seat at the bottom was lubed too.

    Hope this helps.
