    Default Timing Belt?

Hi folks, i have a 1.8 Energy from 2004 with about 56k on the clock. I assume this car has a timing belt rather than a chain?

I also see from reading some threads it should have been replaced at 40k, is this true?

If it is, is there anything else that should be replaced at the same time?

    Thanks in advance.

40k is ideal but i am not sure if they altered the schedule to reflect this. Most seem to get the water pump changed too
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

When I had my 2003 1.8 I asked the local Vauxhall dealer what they recommended as the handbook was far from clear; they advised to replace before 70,000 miles. I decided to err on the side of caution and have it replaced at 60,000 miles by a local independent garage, and I should have had the water pump replaced at the same time as it failed 2 weeks after the belt replacement

I've had 3 belt snaps on previous cars - Frontera which cost £500 to repair, Astra SRi which cost £1000 to repair and an Alfa Romeo 156 which cost £1200 to repair. All of them were failures before the recommended change mileage had been reached

On my current 2006 SRi 1.8 I'll be looking to get it changed at around 50-60,000 miles.

Hmmm, i suppose i'll wait a couple of months before getting anything done then.

Anyone know what kinda costs i can expect to get the timing belt and water pump replaced?

I don't understand why the vectra and the astra - both using the z18xe - have different intervals.

Main dealer price around £270 for the cambelt and water pump.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

About £100 less than that at a good independent dealer (using genuine VX parts), although I guess that will vary across the country. I do live in an area where labour rates tend to be less than most of the country.

    Hi

I got my belt done at 64k, I also got the water pump done as well. I have a 2003 vectra zi8xe, there is now just over 100k on it and I have had no problems.

I had an astra and got the belt done but the garage didn't replace the water pump and a month later the head gasket went, more money A vx mechanic said that this if the pump goes.

You are paying for the labour to get the belt changed so I would advise on getting the pump done at the same time.

Just been reading up on this.. I pick up my new "old car" this weekend. It's a 2004 LS with 63 on the clock and comes with little history. It's almost certain that the belt has not been changed.

I will pay my local garage to do this independantly. Can anyone give the part numbers required for the timing belt and the water pump for vuaxhall...?

Go to Autovaux.com, a lot cheaper and usually genuine vauxhall parts.
