    Default Weights

Can anybody tell me the unladen weights of the 160 SRI sallon and estate please.
I have just been to my local dealer to see if the cars are heavy enough to tow my caravan and all the brochure gives is the gross vehicle weights.

Are the towing weights listed in the brochure not any use?

Pages 210 to 215 in the manual matey. (It does'nt it has being 160, you need to look on passcard for actual engine model type) it also varies a bit depending on options fitted. Hatchbacks between 1687 to 2007kg for 4wd. Estates from 1784 to 2074kg with 4wd, and another 20kg if automatic. You need to check your manual.

It lists all the engine types fitted by model number, and I'm not sure which yours is, although the engine type No. actually fitted will be shown on your pass card.

Thanks Cameron. I havent got an Insignia. I have a Vectra but am thinking of changing my car mate. But i need the curbweight or unladen weight to see if the car is heavy enough. My CDTI is 1540kg. 1800kg wont be the unladen weight of the Insignia mate a Large 4 wheel drive only weighs about that much.

It does'nt say a lot for the dealer if he cannot tell you the curbweight of the car your interested in.

Oh but it is... the Insignia is a very heavy car, for example the lightest curbweight shown in the list for the estate, with all optional addons fitted. varies from 1784kg upto 2074kg

Without any optional addons at all, it lists the estates curbweight from 1610kg upto 1733kg and jumps upto 1940kg for a couple of the 4wd models.

The saloon goes from 1503kg with no optional equipment at all and thats only the little 1600cc, upto 1665kg with no options added, that means no spare wheel, toolkit, or extras, total zap... nothing at all and the 4wd is 1835kg empty of everything.

What I cant find in the manual is a figure that gives the maximum towing weight, as IME you can sometimes come across cars with a fair amount of weight, but its max towing figure is very low indeed, one of the Zafira models was like this. I doubt thats the case with the Insignia however has it does have quite a strong chassis so I'm led to believe.

The Insignia is a very heavy car mate... too heavy IMO, I've only got the 1.8vvt Hatchback and you know you are pulling a fair old lump around. It lists mine as having a curbweight, with sparewheel/tools etc as being 1707kg, and the diesels are around 1800kg or slightly heavier depending on engine.

Thanks SIG . On that website it lists the 2.0 CDTI saloon as 1613 kg and the tourer as 1733. So it is indeed a heavy car.
    I'm likeing it more!

It does show that the estate 160 curbweight as being 1733kg which it shows in the manual under the listing with no optional equipment loaded.
So its probably not that far out, it jumps upto 1822kg with all optional extras loaded.

Thanks Cameron. Iv'e been looking at the BMW 5 series but the Insignia looks a great car for the money. I would be looking at a 4-5yr old 5 series for the same price as a 2000 mile Insignia.
