Default Engine coolant not getting to running temperature

Hi All, My first post. All winter I was unble to get any heat into my car as the water temperature just does not seem to get to a decent operating temperature. It will do if I'm sitting in slow moving traffic for 10 mins or so though. As I do a lot of motorway driving, I have frequently completed 80 -90 mile journeys during the winter without the temp guauge budging from the bottom, and as a consequence get no heat into the car.

Can anyone point me to what may be the problem please... as it would be nice to take my big coat off whilst in the car this winter!!!

Yip, the thermostat would be the first thing to check out. Not very expensive so no great loss if you do change it and it doesn't solve your problem, but I think it will.
