Vectra B - Issue - Need Advise Please

All you vectra B owners out there, need some advise for my Brother in Law

Basically he needs a new key, something to do with it being
re-programmed, new code, car wont start due to immobiliser

He lives in Livingstone , Vauxhall have quoted him ££££'s to have this done as they will also need to tow the car to the garage, and scottish / Veb B members help here please

First you have to get a key pass from Vaux £25
A key fob about £10
Key fitted with blank Transponder £10 on ebay
Get a local key cutter to cut the key i paid £4

Now the hard part try and find somebody with tec2 i will ask on a vec B forum for you but what part of Scotland are you from ?
My mate does them local to me for £10 to all but im in South Wales so he is out of the question he is doing my vec C key fob tommorow

On the Vec-B, I have been advised that you can re-program a used transponder chip. Only porblem is there are loads of different types of them so "apparently" you need to make sure you get the right one, e.g. the MHz rating, etc.

Im pretty certain someone with an op-com type tool can sort it for you.

I tried to do mine sometime ago but I had the wrong chip.....if you let me know what transponder chip he has in his current key, I will see if the one I have match's, if it does, ill post it you and you can try to get it re-prog'd.

It may just be a case of swapping out the blade from one to the other, etc.

Problem is, these things always sound more straight forward than they are!

Vaux Man how do i check what transponder he has ?

Pull the blade away from the main fob (use a small screwdriver and stick in the little tab). When you have the blade on its own, you will see a tiny piece of plastic wedged in one side of the blade casing.....with white writing. Its about 1cm x 0.5cm.

I bought a new key & had it 'Tec2'd' I think but could be a new key just requires setting up in the ignition again it's a while back not more help mate .......

I will ask him to try and " reconnect " it again, failing that i will get the info V-M-G needs and take it from there, thanks for all advice so far

Not yet mate, gave him all info and asked via txt for the mhz of the key transponder, no reply yet .....
